Then & Now: The Marks Family Backyard

Growing up in Marin County I always took for granted how fortunate I was to have a huge backyard and tons of outdoor space to play. Now, living in a small city apartment, I fully appreciate spending time in my backyard. Some of my favorite childhood, and now adulthood, memories are from spending the day in this garden watching the seedlings sprout into lushious vegetables, followed by hours in our kitchen cooking, canning, and eating our hard earned treats. Nothing brings back a more vivid memory of summer than the herbal smells of tomato plants ripe with fruit and wet dirt from a freshly watered garden. I loved being able to spend some spring and summer mornings in Marin helping tend the garden and have always been amazed at the growth of a garden over a few short months.
