This labor day I went back to Marin to hang with a dear dear friend of mine, Julia. She is a traveling QUEEN and has spent the last couple of years exploring the globe, everywhere from Africa to Taiwan and she's off to Costa Rica next week. Shes a students at Global College, which means she gets to travel AND learn AND get a degree all at the same time. Can you say JEALOUS?? On top of that, she is one of the most amazing, interesting, beautiful, bravest people I have ever met. In addition to chillin in her backyard in the sun ( something I haven't done in ages..), eating tons of Asian pears, booking her flight to Costa Rica and living vicariously through all of her crazy stories from her travels, we went to the top of a Tomahawk, which had a BEAUTIFUL 360 view of Marin County, and had an impromptu photo shoot! I used my Nikkormat camera and as soon as I held the viewfinder in front of my eye I was transported back to high school when Julia was my muse. I had forgotten how amazing it is to take photos with my film camera- the excitement I feel once I take an amazing shot and the anticipation of waiting for a week to see the photo once its developed. Instead of focusing on getting the best shot possible and altering shots based on the previous photos errors (which I do too much with my digital) I was able to have fun with my model, focusing on a cool angle or an interesting point of view instead of the technical side. It's so easy to take photos of Julia because she is an absolutely beautiful person, inside and out, and her energy and playful personality makes her every photographer's dream model!! I wish I could have developed and printed the photos myself because theres some darkroom editing I'd like to do, but until I have the time/space/money to build my own this will have to do!
The rest of the photos can be found here.
